Almost every young girl’s dream is to become a prestigious member of her Junior High or High School’s Pep Squad. The school staffs’ adoration, cute uniforms and instant popularity that goes along with membership, are just a few of the ‘perks’ associated with the honor of promoting ones school name and mascot. The majority of school pep-squaders (as we called them in my day) are made up of girls who come from years of dance school training and competition stage experience. Girls who have played s…

I think most of you know how much I love animals, so I think it'd be fun to have a PET POST of our favorite 'little friends' that we each have in our homes! I was a veterinary major in college but ended up pursiung a Junior High Teaching Credential instead because I didn't want to leave Mr. D to finish my vet schooling. So anyway, my second love to children is....you guessed it- animals! Over the 33 years I've been married, I've had probably over 100 pets. I'll tell you more about them at a later time but right now I'll start with the three dogs that Mr. D and I currently parent! The oldest is our 14 year-old black n white chihuahua, named, "Babee" (she's Mr. D's favorite little girl). The little handful was hand-delivered (by me) during my daughter's (Miss Dove's) High School graduation celebration at our old West Covina home. Babee's mother," Lucky", (with my assistance) had just delivered three pups (literally in front of our guests!) but was in distress with the 4th pup painfully lodged in her birth canal. Babee was the runt- only 4" long, never expected to survive the first week.
I hand-fed and carried her around in my purse (long befoire it was fashinable to do so) for years. Babee turned out just fine and has given us years of enjoyment and smiles. Then there's "Starrlight", the original Studio Mascot....a 7-year old chocolate pug with hip and knee displacement problems (bad knees, just like her Momma...me!). I used to bring her with me to the studios often but now that she's in constant pain and has a difficult time walking too much, I leave her at home with her older sister, Babee. Lastly, we just acquired "China Baby", an 8-month old apricot pug. When Dellos performed at the Chinese Expo (that's how I came up with her name) this past February, I bought her from a puppy vendor because her cute big eyes screamed, "Please take me home with you!" China periodically accompanies me to both studios but disrupts classes with her humorous and silly nature! She is the glue that keeps Babee and Starrlight happy each day, with her un- mistaken love, attention and admiration for her two older sisters! That's all about my dogs for now...tell me about your pets!
With love from your animal-loving dance teacher, Miss B!
